My inspiration for this project was the bench outside one of the barns that had plants overtaking it. I wanted to emphasize the idea that nature is taking over this property and I want to incorporate it into my design for the building that I create. My next step will be to pick out squares from this black and white image and then start creating floor plans for the 3D forms.
After I made my collage of different sections of the figure ground I picked a couple of squares out from the middle and put them together and started to find the shapes and lines that came from them. I then brought the line drawing into Rhino to start constructing the 3D form. I wanted to have the building have different levels and dynamic parts to it. You will notice that the main part of the building is all the same height (medium height). I wanted this to represent the bench. Because it is in the middle there are other parts surrounding it at different heights that have either grown through the "bench" or are just starting to grow. I wanted to show this relationship abstractly.
My next step would be to modify the 3D figure to add a little more dimension and interest. I am not sure what exactly would make my concept more clear though.
After critique I worked with my collage to focus more on picking out shapes from the figure ground instead of just from certain squares. I picked out the forms I found most interesting and then put them into Rhino. I layered the different forms to create more interest and "holes" in the architecture.

Sara,
Great image to be conveyed your concept. Maybe, you could develop your first moment further to make ambiguous 2D figure/ground. You could cut and paste your images to be new composition. Again, it is still from you original image even if the appearance is completely transformed. Thanks and great job! Ra
