Door Iterations

One of the most interesting things I found while on site was all the different doors. So for this project I focused on the main center front section of the facade on the large dairy barn. The ground floor has a sliding door, the hayloft has a single swinging door and above that a set of double swinging doors. Since the forms of the doors were pretty basic I went one step further and studied the movement of the doors and how they affected the composition of the facade. I did this a little backwards, first I modeled everything in Rhino, then did overlays in Illustrator, then finally did figure grounds in Photoshop. I think all the different movements and positions of the doors make for an interesting study.

The first two iterations basically focus on the movement of the doors from different angles.
This next iterations also focuses on door movement, but it looks from the front (roughly eye level) and then from above. I think the above pattern is very interesting.
This last iteration looks at the door movement from inside the barn. I experimented with the figure grounds in this one. The first I did like the others, the second is an inverse with regulating lines crossing through it. It was just something I wanted to see and think about.

Interesting composition! You could develop your first moment further to make ambiguous 2D figure/ground. Remember the first example(9 Squares of 2D figure/ground) I showed you yesterday. Thanks. Ra
